"The (Still) Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe." Smithsonian. N.p., n.d. Web. 30 Oct. 2015. In the article "The (Still) Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe", the theory on how Poe may have died is, sadly, from a beating. It is believed that Poe may have died from getting brutally beaten up by the brothers of Elmira Shelton, Poe's soon to be wife! The three brothers were not very fond of Poe, so they "talked" to him to try to get him to brake it off with Elmira. Edgar was so afraid of them that he disguised himself in different clothes than what he was last seen in. After he changed his clothing, he went off to Baltimore to marry his wife, but was caught by the three brothers. Sadly, this theory thinks that Poe was forced to drink whiskey and the brothers beat him so awfully. The writer of this article makes their points with facts that actually happened. One of them being Poe's change in clothing. They got their theory across to the readers and the author is expressing what they truly believe may have happened to Edgar Allan Poe. I personally do not think this actually happened. Yes, I do believe that the Shelton brothers were not too happy about their sister marring Poe, but I do not think they beat him to death.
